About the Author
Maya Maat is a writer, poet, somatic therapist, and doula. She is also the founder of The Joyous Womb, where she offers holistic womb-centered care, prenatal and postpartum support, and soulful reflections through her blog. A lifelong storyteller, Maya wrote and published her first book in the 5th grade and has been weaving worlds with words ever since. The Red Thread is her debut as an official author—a powerful, intimate memoir exploring trauma, healing, and the sacred inheritance of the womb.

Maya’s creative expression spans genres—from poetry that speaks directly to the soul, to science fiction that challenges conventional storytelling and explores utopian futures, alternative realities, and profound questions about the world we live in. Whether working in truth or speculative realms, her writing centers themes of liberation, embodiment, and ancestral memory.

Originally from a big city but now rooted in the South, Maya has found peace in being surrounded by nature. She finds inspiration in landscapes, music, sisterhood, and the sacred beauty of the everyday. Through meditation, astrological studies, dance, and multi-medium art she connects to the present and allows her intuition to flow. Her greatest joy is being a mother to her radiant toddler and a cat mom as well.
Beyond the page, she advocates for human rights, womb sovereignty, and the collective restoration of ancestral wisdom. Her life's work lives at the intersection of storytelling and healing-both guided by radical honesty, love, and the joy of remembering.
